Thelma Duprat Obituary

Thelma June Ellis Duprat was born March 28, 1931 in Mooers, New York, where she spent most of her early life.  After high school, she attended Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Burlington, Vermont, where she graduated as an RN.  While in Burlington, she met and married Leo Joseph Duprat in 1952.  Together, they moved to Maine due to Leo's service in the Air Force.  From Maine, they were transferred to Germany for four years.  They came back to Maine in 1963, and Thelma continued working as an RN.  Upon Leo's retirement after 21 years in the Air Force, they moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in 1973.  While in Pittsfield, Thelma was head nurse at Hillcrest Hospital.  In 1974, after Leo's passing, Thelma went into home health care, of which she was a pioneer in her field.

In the late seventies, Thelma came to the Outer Banks on vacation.  She loved the area so much that in 1981, she decided to move here.  In 1984, she returned to home health care.  Over the years, Thelma also has worked at several grocery stores and also managed the Tanglewood Hotel in the Outer Banks.

Thelma's first love was Jesus Christ.  Her joy of life and love for Jesus has allowed her to be a Spiritual Mom and Sister to many.  This was made easy by her ability to love everyone she met.  She truly was a friend to all.  Over the years, she traveled on a number of mission trips to Africa, Israel, Grenada, and the Philippines.  Her longing was to return to Israel and live there serving others.

Thelma had two children precede her to heaven, Michael and Linda, as well as a grandson, George Jr.  To continue to celebrate her life in her leaving this earth are sons Bob, wife Candice; George, wife Jocelyn; and Joel, along with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and the many people who were all considered a part of her extended family.

Our Dear Thelma, enjoy the presence of your Lord and Savior who we know greeted you with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant.

Thelma would say to you today, "It is your turn to carry the light of Jesus Christ to the world.
