Day 40: Love is a covenant

(11/7) Day 40: Love is a covenant

Where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.  -Ruth 1:16

TODAY'S MARRIAGE LOVE DARE

Write out a renewal of your vows and place them in your home. Perhaps, if appropriate, you could make arrangements to formally renew your wedding vows before a minister and with family present. Make it a living testament to the value of marriage in God's eyes and the high honor of being one with your mate.

TODAY'S ONE ANOTHER LOVE DARE

Write out a commitment to your Church. Make a commitment to encourage your Pastor, Church leaders and those you worship with each week. Do not give up encouraging others and challenging them to grow in their relationship with Jesus and others.

(11/6) Day 39: Love endures

Love never fails. -1 Corinthians 13:8

TODAY'S MARRIAGE LOVE DARE

Spend time in personal prayer, then write a letter of commitment and resolve to your spouse. Include why you are committing to this marriage until death, and that you have purposed to love them no matter what. Leave it in a place that your mate will find it.

TODAY'S ONE ANOTHER LOVE DARE

Spend time in personal prayer, then write a letter of commitment and resolve to God. Include why you are committing to serving others and that you have purposed to love others no matter what. Share the letter with someone and ask them to hold you accountable to live out your life by following God's plan for you.

November Prayer and Fasting Day 3

Day Three

Pray for a pain-free relationship with God.  Allow your personal relationship with Jesus, by the power of His Holy Spirit, confront the PREY on your hurts.

Luke 4:9-13

9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10 for it is written, 'He will give His angels charge concerning You to guard You,' 11 and, 'On their hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.'"

12 And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 13 And when the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.

I am sure you have heard the phrase, "It is not the fall that hurts but the landing."  I grew up within a half-mile of a Navy practice landing field.  One of the most wonderful sights I can remember is to watch the paratroopers practice.  To see them jump out of the plane and open the parachutes and then, almost as if to snub their nose at gravity, float to the ground.  One morning, the sun glistened off of the plane as it ascended to the height of the jump.  I became excited at the sight that was to come.  That morning's hope quickly faded as I stood there and watched two of the jumpers, for whatever reason, race through the air without parachutes opening.  It seemed that before the men disappeared behind the treetops, I heard the sirens responding to the site of the landing.  As the events of the day unfolded, it was clear that these two men died during this training time.  So often, we desire to want a pain-free life.  Why can't life just be easy and without complications?  Why can't God just come down and zap my hurt and pain away and rescue me?  Why is it we have to be PREYED ON?  The Scriptures tell us that the pain in our life is a way for Jesus to teach us more about who He really is.  Yes, we are PREYED ON, but we do not have to accept that if we are PRAYED UP.  Jesus is more concerned about us being pain free in our understanding and relationship with Him in our Spirit than our physical bodies.  Jesus desires to guide us through the hurts and pains of this life to show others who He really is.

JESUS, TRANSFORM MY THINKING

Jesus desires for me to find Joy in a way that He will help me understand who He is through the pain in my life.  The PREYED ON person says, God, give me a pill I can take to take away all the pain.  The PRAYED UP says, God, show me more about you through this pain I am experiencing.  The PREYED ON says, Can you believe what that person did or said to me?  They hurt me, and I am looking for an opportunity to settle the score.  The PRAYED UP says, Flesh and blood is not my enemy but rather the one that PREYS ON me, so I am going to see the PRAYED UP view of things by seeing how God is going to grow me and allow others to see the Jesus in me by my reaction to the hurt.

Prayer

Lord, today I choose not to have my emotions PREYED ON, and I choose to become PRAYED UP by spending time daily with Jesus to build my relationship with Him. Lord, show me ways to deploy the Holy Spirit parachute today.  When the hurt of the landing is what the PREYED ON wants, I choose to be PRAYED UP and allow the Joy of the pain in this world change my perspective of You for others around me to enjoy.

Day 38: Love fulfills dreams

(11/5) Day 38: Love fulfills dreams

Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.

-Psalm 37:4

TODAY'S MARRIAGE LOVE DARE

Ask yourself what your spouse would want if it was obtainable. Commit this to prayer, and start mapping out a plan for meeting some (if not all) of their desires, to whatever level you possibly can.

TODAY'S ONE ANOTHER LOVE DARE

Pray and ask yourself how and where does God want me to serve others even if I think it was obtainable. Commit this to prayer, and start mapping out a plan for serving others the way God's desires in whatever level you possibly can.

November Prayer and Fasting Day 2
clear

Day Two

Pray for true and proper fear of God that a personal relationship with Jesus provides and, by the power of His Holy Spirit, confront the PREY on your fears.

Luke 4:5-8

5 And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 "Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours." 8 And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'"

Have you ever been to a ropes course?  A few years ago, I had the opportunity to go with our church youth group.  It was interesting to watch the youth of our Church confront their fears and work on teambuilding exercises together.  One such exercise was one person who was harnessed and standing on a platform overlooking a gully.  Just below the platform was a group of other teens holding a rope which went through a series of pulleys and was attached to the harness of the person on the platform.  As soon as the person on the platform shouted, the others would run, hanging onto the rope which would lift the person from the platform and swing them out over the gully.  As you can well imagine, many laughs, screams, and cries came out as the exercise was carried out.  As a person standing on the platform, you really had no control over what happened to you.  Just as you would swing back and forth over the gully, you would begin to realize your safety and your return back to the ground was completely in the hands of others.  I remember standing on the platform that day not thinking about whether the rope and pulleys could handle me in my swinging but whether the people holding onto the rope could handle it.  My mind went to this Scripture, and I thought of how satan desired to handle the rope as Jesus was on the platform.  Jesus was not ready to give satan the rope because Jesus knew God already was handling the other end of the rope.  If we are not PRAYED UP, there are things in this world we call possessions, and they control how we swing and land back on the ground.  Satan watches that, and if he can, he will PREY ON us with those things we let control the rope.

JESUS, TRANSFORM MY THINKING

Jesus chose to let God continue to handle the rope while Jesus was on the platform called this world.  Jesus many times had to be PRAYED UP so that He was not PREYED ON.  Today, begin to pray and ask God to reveal to you those things you have not let God handle the rope on.  You must be honest with yourself if there is to be any Holy Spirit transformation that happens.  If we do not let God have the rope because of our fear, that fear is what satan PREYS ON.  When we are PRAYED UP, we find true Joy by giving the rope to Jesus and say, LORD, take control.  He then says back to you, If you want Me to take control, I will, and I will return it back to you to be a steward of it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, today I want to give you the rope.  I am tired of being PREYED ON.  Instead, today I choose to spend time in prayer with you so I can be PRAYED UP.  Everything I call my own is now yours, whether it is physical possessions or the thoughts in my mind or the motives and intentions of my heart.  Lord, strap me into Your Holy Spirit harness and take ahold of the rope.  I am choosing to be PRAYED UP today and to have JOY in all you desire for me to enjoy and experience.
