Our Purpose:

Build up and encourage Disciples of Jesus Christ, as they reflect His image to others.

Our Focus for this week:

Allow God, through His Holy Spirit to shape and sharpen us

Day 5 – Praise God for the shaping, He has done this week

Daily Verses - 1 Peter 1:13-18, 17-23

“Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth”

Today we are going to begin praising God for the transformation He has begun in our lives this week. We struggle with this at times, because we often look at things as all, or nothing. We do this because of our own inability to forgive. In ourselves we don’t forgive, because we don’t believe God has forgiven us. So we go back to the experience, connect it with our feelings, and say how can God forgive, because I don’t feel forgiven. We also do the same when we see others. We have not forgiven them because we don’t see the change we want to see, so if we forgive we will give up our right to apply the pressure for them to change. To begin to rejoice in the shaping, and sharpening of God in us, we must begin to rejoice in the increments of work, which God is doing. A victory today, builds an excitement and hope of tomorrow, and builds faith in God. Read these next two passages from Scripture and let them sink in. The work of faith in those who have lived before us.

Hebrews 6:9-12

“But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way. For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Ephesians 4:1-6

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.”

Now look where this transformation comes from back in 1 Peter 1:18-23.

“knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and abiding word of God.”

I would like to hear from you, so I can rejoice with you in what God is doing.

Then his servants said to him, "What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food."
